Proteus sp.
Large, light brown colonies. The agar will also be stained brown around the colonies.
Causes 2-4 % of UTIs
Resistance to Nitrofuranotin and Cephalothin is not uncommon
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Large, grey white/greenish colonies, with a metallic tinge. The agar may take on greenish colour .
The bacteria will have a sweet smell
Causes <2% of UTIs
Resistance to Cepthalothin, Amox/Clav, Nitrofurantoin and Trimethoprim is not uncommon
Staphylococcus saprophyticus
Small white/reddish(pink) colonies
Causes 5– 10% of UTIs
No common resistance profile
