- Bacteria can be identified according to the colour and sometimes the *size of the colonies (Table 1) .
- *The size of colonies is also dependent on colony density; if a large number of colonies are present then individual colonies may not be visible and instead an unbroken ‘lawn’ of bacteria may cover the large Flexicult section.
- It may be difficult to confidently identify the bacteria, as some bacterial colonies are very similar in colour. However, even making a note of the colour may be of help to know if the patient may have the same type of bacteria causing their UTI at a future consultation.
